Bangladesh is one of the least development countries of the world. Surrounded by India on three sides, this delta of 133,910 square kilometers is ravaged by nothing but poverty. With per capita income of 599 US dollars, it is teeming with people who can't afford to put food to their children's mouth. This all-encompassing poverty forces many to send their offspring to orphanages. But orphanages are quite low compared to the number of those who actually need them.
I think those who are driven by their goodwill to help others in need may think about this country. And in this case, volunteering for orphanages can be a great idea. I was born and raised in Dhaka. And I've seen how so many kids are living in a subhuman condition in slums the westerners must feel shocked even to think about. With population density of about 47 thousand per square kilometers, there are literally millions of kids who are working very hard simply to keep breathing.
I know there are people who are looking for an opportunity to serve the humanity. And for them, I would strongly suggest Bangladesh. Some good-hearted humanitarians have already made some significant contribution here. Mother Teresa Orphanage in Dhaka bears testimony to that.
